Honda has finished 2018 with a bang. The Japanese carmaker recently posted its 2018 years sales highlights, and it has finished the year with some impressive improvements.
Honda truck sales has specifically seen an improvement. This
segment set both new monthly sales records and annual records, making 2018 the
fourth year in a row of record light-truck sales. The CR-V led the way with
42,079 units sold in December, which marks a 13.8% sales gain. The Pilot set
its own new annual record, beating its previous record by over 7,000 units.
Honda’s three-row SUV was also considered the fastest growing SUV in its
segment for 2018.
“In 2018, we took advantage of the continued consumer shift
toward light trucks, contributing to another record year for our Honda and
Acura light-truck businesses,” said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president
of the American Honda Automobile Division.
Along with these record truck sales, the Accord increased
its year-over-year December sales by 29.4% with a total of 28,627 sales. This
midsize sedan had the highest transaction prices in the midsize segment, while
the Civic compact car managed to hold on to its crown as the best-selling
retail compact car in America for the ninth consecutive year.

The SUV segment is becoming more popular than ever. Honda in particular has boasted significant sales growth in this region, highlighted by more than 40% growth in Pilot sales and the battle by the CR-V to be the #1 SUV in America. flexible SUV lineup across all audiences.”
The campaign itself will have two new multicultural spots
that will incorporate insights around the brand’s Hispanic and African-American
buyers; it will also shine the spotlight on the HR-V, CR-V, and Pilot models —
and how there is a Honda SUV for every customer need.

There is no denying that the future of the automotive industry will rely more heavily on electricity and battery power. Current battery systems are getting smaller and offering more electric driving range. However, to help advance this technology even further, Honda and GM have joined forces. This will help both companies accelerate their respective plans for all-electric vehicles.
“In addition to our ongoing joint development and production of fuel cells, this battery component collaboration will enable us to take a new step toward the realization of a sustainable society,” said Takashi Sekiguchi, Chief Officer for Automobile Operations and Managing Officer of Honda.
As part of this agreement, the two companies will collaborate on GM’s next generation battery system with Honda sourcing the battery modules from GM. Each company will be able to use the technology in the distinct vehicles. With a larger, global production scale, both automakers will be able to provide better overall value to customers.
This is not the first time Honda and GM have worked together. They previously formed the first manufacturing joint venture for an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system. This collaboration should produce a new hydrogen system by 2020 that is more affordable and efficient.

Honda has made a major investment in its Indiana and Ohio production facilities. Part of that investment includes launching the production of the all-new 2019 Honda Insight in Indiana. The Honda Insight is powered by a two-motor hybrid powertrain that generates 151 horsepower and 197 lb-ft of torque.
What & Where
A $61.5 million investment aims to add to Honda’s electrified vehicle portfolio. The Honda Insight will be produced exclusively at the Greensburg, Indiana production facility. Three Ohio facilities will produce powertrain parts that make the Insight into an efficient sedan drivers are sure to love.
$32.5 million of the investment is going towards producing the all-new Honda Insight. A new 19,200-sq ft. building expansion will be home to assembly of the Insight’s front end. Other processes directed to the 2019 Insight include high-voltage wiring and the power control system.
The 2019 Honda Insight will land in dealership showrooms this summer. It will slot between the Civic and Accord with seating for five. The Honda Sensing® safety suite comes standard on all models. The Insight marks the fifth electrified Honda model launched in the past 18 months.

69 percent of 2018 model-year vehicles sold by Honda have Honda Sensing ® technology installed on them, indicating that the technology’s application has more than doubled since 2016. Additionally, the study from the IIHS indicated that not only are fewer people injured in vehicles equipped with Honda Sensing ® , but the injuries are less severe and insurance claims less expensive. Honda also recently announced plans to have automatic emergency braking installed on 95% of vehicles by 2020, two years ahead of the legal requirement.
