For April Fools’ Day, Honda put out a hoax press release and video announcing that “car horn emojis” would be included in the 2018 Honda Odyssey, calling it an “integrated vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-human communications system for the modern driver.”
In the video, an actress playing a “Honda Dream Labs” employee introduces the Honda Horn Emoji as “a full range of expressive horn sounds” connected to emojis that let you use your horn to react in any situation. The Odyssey in the video has a range of recognizable emojis on its steering wheel, from a smiley face to a frowning face to a puppy emoji.
The emojis have practical purposes too—the dog emoji is silent to humans but can be used to warn dogs that vehicles are approaching it. Quoting the Honda engineer in charge of “horn development,” the press release states that Honda Horn Emoji is “the industry’s most advanced in-vehicle technology in the minivan segment.”
The press release goes on to explain the development of the Horn Emoji in detail. We’re glad Honda had fun with April Fools’ Day this year—and if you’re really interested in Honda Horn Emoji becoming a reality, file your suggestion at Sunny King Honda!
