Winter tires aren’t just for those who live in the icy tundra; they’re also great for anyone who experiences winter. While Alabama isn’t exactly known for its harsh winter season, there are still several reasons you should consider buying winter tires this year when the thermometer starts to dip.
According to the Chronicle Herald, one of the obvious advantages of winter tires is that they have thick treads. These treads are great for slippery surfaces, whether it’s snow and ice or simply rain. It can’t hurt to have a little added control on the road this winter. With the proper winter tires, you can stop 30 feet sooner than with normal tires.
Next, winter tires also come with special patterns and channels to divert water. Thanks to these treads, your winter tires can prevent hydroplaning from occurring, which is important to prevent a loss of control behind the wheel. No more slipping and sliding on wet surfaces.
Year Round Temperatures
Finally, winter tires aren’t just for precipitation. Built with special rubber compounds, winter tires are designed to hold up in colder temperatures. With summer tires, for example, the rubber may become hard and stiff. However, winter tires remain flexible to maintain handling even when it gets cold.

The new 2017 Honda CR-V is bigger and better than ever before, so it’s no wonder that the model was recently named one of America’s best-selling cars, right next to the new Honda Civic. Of course, the Honda CR-V has been popular for years, but the 2017 model has truly raised the bar.
To begin with, various trim levels for the Honda CR-V are fueled by a 1.5-liter turbo engine that gets up to 190 horsepower, offering a smooth, powerful drive. Plus, the engine boosts the model’s fuel economy, now sitting at up to 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
The new Honda CR-V is also being celebrated for its top-notch driving dynamics, interior space, safety programs, and even its affordability. Between its low starting MSRP and impressive fuel economy, there’s no telling how much you could save.
Lastly – and more important than ever, during the winter months – the new Honda CR-V comes with all-wheel drive, protecting you on snowy and icy roads. This also makes the model perfect for light off-roading adventures.
Want to learn more about the new 2017 Honda CR-V features? Stop by and visit us anytime at Sunny King Honda, and we will be happy to set you up on a test drive!
More and more automakers are throwing their hand into the self-driving car market, and Honda is no exception. In fact, recently, Honda has expressed interest in working with Google on their Waymo project, which focuses on autonomous vehicles.
Waymo reportedly already makes use of self-driving sensors, self-driving software, and an advanced computing platform, which would certainly help Honda catapult to the head of the game. These tech features are already being tested on United States soil, and soon, they could be tested in a Honda model.
Honda even announced recently that they would like to have self-driving vehicles on the road by 2020, which is getting closer every day, in an aim to reach a “collision-free” society. Not only would self-driving cars be convenient, but also, they would be much safer.
With automated sensor systems, self-driving vehicles would be able to communicate with each other instantaneously, avoiding collisions with both other cars and street obstacles. There’s no telling how many lives could be saved if there was an enormous shift toward self-driving cars on the road.
Would you like to see self-driving Honda cars on the market? Let us know what you think, or come visit us to check out one of our many currently available (driver-required – of course!) vehicles. We’d be happy to set you up on a test drive!
There are a range of different vehicle body styles on the market. You can choose between sedans, coupes, SUVs, and crossovers. However, not everyone knows the difference between these various terms. In order to help you find the car that’s perfect for you, we’ve put together a post explaining some of the differences between these models.
According to Autotrader, an SUV is a sport utility vehicle, a model built on a truck chassis. This body style comes with a body-on-frame design, which means the body and frame are separate. This allows for a more rigid ride, which is ideal for harsh terrain and off roading. A crossover, on the other hand, comes with a unibody design. This is traditionally built on a car chassis, which makes it softer and smoother. The SUV is better for towing heavy loads and off-road adventures, while the crossover is ideal for everyday comfort.
What about a sedan and coupe? A sedan is the classic four-door design you see on most American cars. Technically, a sedan has more than 33 cu ft of rear interior volume, which makes it perfect for up to 4 or 5 people. Many families prefer the sedan. A coupe normally comes with two doors, and it has less than 33 cu ft of interior volume. This usually increases performance and adds sporty appeal, though you don’t have as much room as a sedan.
These are just some of the many important distinctions to keep in mind when buying a car. Now that you know the difference between coupes, sedans, SUVs, and crossovers, you’ll be better equipped to find your dream car.
Around one in eight drivers foregoes protecting themselves and their vehicle with a car insurance policy. That’s an incredible number of drivers—and if you’re one of them, you could face financial ruin if you’re involved in an accident. Car insurance has more benefits than just fixing your car. Here’s a quick rundown on why you need car insurance from us here at Sunny King Honda!
Money – When it comes to keeping yourself financially protected, car insurance is a must-have. Not only will car insurance cover your vehicle, it could save you from losing everything. The average cost of a single car accident in 2013 was $9,300, according to the National Safety Council. That’s roughly the cost of half a compact car. That number doesn’t include medical bills, either.
Health – In accidents that caused a serious injury, the average cost of a car accident sky rocketed to $80,700, according to the National Safety Council. That’s nearly three figures and the majority of people don’t have that kind of cash on hand. In a pinch, car insurance could supplement your health insurance as well.
Law – In most states, having car insurance is the law. Not only will having car insurance protect you from uninsured drivers, but it will keep you from paying costly fees and potentially losing your license.
When you go car shopping, you’ll find that one of the first decisions you will have to make is whether or not you want to buy or lease. Believe it or not, roughly 30% of new-car transactions are in the form of a lease, illustrating that more people lease than you might think. Although buying may be good for some, the advantages of leasing are multifold.
Buying vs. leasing: what’s the difference? When you lease a vehicle, you are paying a small fee, as well as monthly payments. Typically, your payments are based on the cost of depreciation during the time you have the car, which is usually two to three years. Buying, on the other hand, usually involves a large down payment and large monthly payments for anywhere from five to 10 years.
According to Kiplinger, leasing is great for people who want low monthly payments, or individuals that don’t have access to large amounts of cash. Although you don’t get to keep the leased vehicle when you are finished, you tend to pay less than you would if you financed it. Plus, there is no danger of going upside-down on your loan (when you owe more than the car is worth). It is possible to save money when leasing.
What it comes down to for most buyers is the cost and the commitment. Buying a vehicle is only a good idea if you can make a large down payment, find low-interest financing, and if you are willing to take care of your model for over a decade. With leasing, there is less pressure, lower monthly payments, and tons of deals.
