When it comes to the Honda Accord, superlatives abound. The most telling is perhaps the number sold. Americans have bought 12.7 million units of the Honda Accord since its inception in 1976, making it the most popular, best-selling car in America for forty years.
Of course, it’s not only consumers that have showed adoration for this inimitable sedan. The automotive press has also been charmed, it seems. The Honda Accord has the singular honor of being the only vehicle to have made the 10 Best list by Car and Driver over thirty times.
Not only has the Honda Accord been so often purchased here in the United States, but since Honda began manufacturing the Accord in Ohio, American workers have produced more than 10.5 million units as well.
According to the automaker, one of the keys to the success of the Accord is the car’s ability “to adapt to the changing needs of customers.” For example, when the Accord first hit the scene back in the late 70s, it was a hatchback with a smaller wheelbase than the contemporary Honda Fit!
